Weekly AI Brief · October 26, 2026

AI privacy, Yelp leads and electrical takeoffs

This week, we’re looking at clearer customer communication around AI, a new way to bring Yelp inquiries into Jobber, and a takeoff tool worth a look for commercial electricians.

01 · Customer interaction

Be clear with customers when AI is involved

On October 23, Canada’s Privacy Commissioner published a submission on AI transparency. It argues that people should understand when AI collects or uses their personal information, including through chatbots.

This is a published policy position, not a new law introduced this week.

Why it matters

If you use an AI receptionist or website assistant, the opening conversation is a good place to explain how it works. Clear wording helps customers know who they’re dealing with and what happens to their information.

Worth trying

Walk through one customer conversation. Check whether it identifies the automated assistant, explains information collection and recording where relevant, and gives customers a clear way to reach your team. Confirm the consent process against the privacy rules that apply to your business.

Canadian relevance

This is a Canadian federal privacy development. Requirements depend on the activity and applicable federal or provincial rules.

02 · Lead management

Yelp quote requests can now flow into Jobber

Jobber’s October 20 update introduced Yelp lead capture. Its help documentation confirms availability in Canada and the United States on Core and higher plans, with a claimed Yelp business and Request a Quote enabled.

Why it matters

If Yelp brings you work, this could remove another inbox from the office’s daily routine. Requests arrive with client and job details. Existing clients are matched by phone number; missing or different numbers can still create duplicates.

Worth trying

Have your team check three controlled requests: a new client, an existing client with the same phone number, and one with a different number. Then measure response time, booked estimates and jobs sold over a month.

Availability and a detail to catch

Canadian availability is confirmed. Check account costs before connecting. Yelp’s temporary email expires after 30 days, so collect the customer’s real address early for later communication.

03 · Tool worth investigating

Drawer AI: a first pass at electrical takeoffs

Drawer AI works from PDF electrical drawings to identify devices and help prepare quantities and routing. It offers Excel reports and marked-up PDFs. This is an existing tool we’re highlighting, rather than a release announced this week.

Why it matters

For commercial and industrial electrical contractors, less time counting symbols could leave more time to review the bid. The estimator still needs to check the output and project assumptions.

Worth trying

Use one completed project with a verified manual takeoff. Compare counts, quantities, missed items and total preparation time, including the time needed to correct the AI’s work.

Canadian availability and cost

The vendor says it serves Canada. Annual Starter and Enterprise plans require a sales quote; confirm currency and the handoff to your estimating software. Ask specifically how Canadian code requirements are handled. Published examples of time savings aren’t a forecast for your shop.

A useful starting point this week

Pick the item that fits the way you already work. If you use an AI receptionist, listen to the opening conversation. If Yelp brings you inquiries, check the Jobber connection. If your estimators work from full electrical drawing sets, compare a takeoff tool against a job you already know.

Keep the test small and measure the time saved, corrections needed and effect on the customer.
